Nerja
Nerja is situated on the eastern end of the Costa del Sol , about 50kms from Malaga . The town can be reached via highway A7. The former fishing village is populated by about 12,000 people and located directly at the seashore. Nerja offers 16kms of beaches with powdery sand, and the crystal-clear water invites for sun bathing and swimming. Fans of water-sports can find plenty of possibilities -waterskiing, diving , sailing etc. - to enjoy their hobby during their stay. Nerja is flanked by the magnificent "Sierra Almijara" to the east of the town.
Nerja´s Old Town has fortunately been able to keep its original ambience and is well worth a visit. Walking through the narrow lanes, visitors can find the white-washed houses which reflect the typical Spanish townscape of Nerja. The heart of the town is without a doubt the spectacular "Balcón de Europa" (Balcony of Europe), situated directly at the coastline. Not only can an old Moorish castle be admired from this viewing balcony, but visitors will also find a superb panoramic view over sea, beaches and the foothills of the nearby mountains.
There's a large variety of restaurants and bars in the town centre. Nerja´s romantic spots can be discovered by horse-drawn carriages with the help of experienced coachmen.
The 17 th century church " El Salvador " with its fascinating mixture of baroque and Moorish or Mudéjar architecture, is also worth seeing. Yet, the town's most attractive feature is without doubt the magnificent caves (Las Cuevas de Nerja), located only 3 kilometres from the centre. Visitors can find archeological treasures which are over 20,000 years old, excavations, paintings and other prehistoric remains. One of the many natural caves has been transformed into a concert hall, where many performances take place during summer.
