Jerez de la Frontera
Over the past centuries, the town of Jerez , situated in the province of Cadiz , has been influenced by numerous cultures. The architecture of Jerez illustrates the influence that different religions had on this town. Many remnants within the town and the surrounding area bear also witness to that fact. A big part of the town's beauty stems from the unique and different buildings constructed by the Romans, Phoenicians, Muslims and lastly Christians. It´s ancient and nonetheless green townscape invites the visitor for sightseeing as well as for long strolls through the narrow lanes.
Not all Spanish towns are as internationally renowned as Jerez is. Due to its famous wine and sherry production (" jerez " means sherry in Spanish), the town's name is an established term throughout the world.
Jerez means much more than architecture, history and sherry though. It is the home of the Carthusian horses and the Spanish Riding School . Many fighting bulls are being bred around Jerez and it is also the cradle of Spanish flamenco. Last but not least the Circuito de Jerez, the motor-racing track hosts spectacular motor-racing and also cultural events and music festivals.
The beautiful town is a tasteful symbiosis of ancient and modern times and has numerous things to offer for its inhabitants and visitors. The midtown, with its shopping malls, leads via green alleys to the historical centre of the town. There, visitors can also find splendid shopping facilities, stroll through the lanes or enjoy the rich tapas-variety. Plenty of bodegas offer the possibility to witness sherry-production and partake in tasting the famous local product.
All these possibilities combine with the nearby beach (12 km) and Jerez´s magnificent climate. All in all, Jerez can only be called a perfect place to stay.
