Ayamonte
Ayamonte was for a long period of time known as "The gateway to Spain" when there was just one small ferry connection to Portugal. This ferry is still operating today but there is also a nearby suspension bridge. In the quarter around the ferry harbour there are a number of small and attractive plazas, linked by steep, narrow lanes. This area is a perfect place for a stroll. The church "Iglesia de San Francisco " with its affiliated museum is located right in the middle and well worth a visit. The famous tower "Iglesia de Nuestra Senora de las Angustias" offers memorable views over the town. Ayamonte is an ideal starting point for trips to Portugal´s beaches via boat or by car.
